There are many problems associated with flash of smartphones like red eye and motion blur. Sometimes flash make the photograph so bright that they miss out some details as it can also lead to high color temperature levels and finally ending up with blurry and red eyed image. So use it only when its emergency.

Yes to Crop Zoom

It is clearly noticeable that the quality of our picture starts to degrade when we begin to zoom our picture while clicking a shot in our smartphone. If i would have zoom in this above picture the fine greenery detail would have diminished as they don't get larger but are getting stretched out in reality. It becomes ugly soon. Many smartphones today have 12 mega pixels of  resolution so even if we crop the picture we have more than  sufficient amount of resolution to show plus the photo will not have that zooming effects which is a plus point.

Don't forget to consider the "Background"

We should always try to stand closer to the camera when it comes to a landmark next to us as the picture is 2-D and we will look so tiny if the landmark is huge. So, why not stand closer to the camera in such a manner and let the landmark become our beautiful background. Also we are to take care of the subject in the picture while trying out different angles of background to get the perfect shot.

Rule Of Thirds or "Rule of Thumb"some-tips-to-take-better-pictures-from-smartphone.html

It proposes that an image should be imagined as divided into nine equal parts by two equally spaced horizontal lines and two equally spaced vertical lines and the elements should be placed along these lines of their intersections. Most smartphone's camera has this function. So the horizon sits at the horizontal line dividing lower third of photo from upper two thirds. In simple words when you are shooting the pictures of people just have their eyes to fall along one of those lines and for the horizon make it match to one of the horizontal line.
