Languages a Science Student Should Learn (Why and Which)

Learning a new language is important for everyone in many ways. I have specified only science students because personally being a science student i see many people lack in command to even basic important languages.making oneself better as a linguaphile is a very important aspect to be focused on. Being scientists or engineers or teachers, facing this world with yet more words can put stars to your personality.

Why Should You Learn A Second Language?

Learning different languages apart from your mother tongue always increases your intelligence level, helps you to be more creative, and makes you an excellent learner. Also, yes it makes one more interactive. Increasing your dictionary may increase quality people in your life which can help you to grow better.

Apart from all this general points there are some specific points too.

  • Being a multilingual opens a lot of doors for you.knowing languages like German,Spanish not only increase job opportunities here in India, but also increase your potential career all over the world.
  • Many ancient time papers that were published by the scientists were not originally written in English.having knowledge of language will open a lot of pathways of knowledge for you. although, almost every paper worth reading will be available in English. But that doesn't mean that there's no reason to learn other languages, you can always get a lot more from a conversation than from a paper.
  • Learning a language connects you to the history of that place.it helps to connect with ancient ideas associated with that area.

Now,the obvious question coming to your  mind is which languages should be preferred.

Before i tell you about some languages please take note to some points.

  • If you want your ideas to be spread, you should learn a second language that is most connected.like for example-Malayalam is spoken in India by 35 million people but most of the population around will not be able to understand your idea if is expressed in Malayalam.
  • Do not ever learn a dead language (a language is never dead,by that i mean is a language that has no or little scope or logic).
  • There are some languages i am referring to .please don't consider their order as a priority order because it all depends on individual interests and needs.

  • ENGLISH- Being the most common language ,it is one of the most important language one should know.you think you know English very well right? Well, even if you do, communicating effectively and efficiently doesn’t come naturally, and you may need to work on it. Before you start learning another language, you could try sharping your English skills and become a more effective communicator.this language connects billions of people all over the world and having command over this language should be your prior task.

  • GERMAN- Germany justifiably presents itself as “The Land of Ideas”. most of the great discoveries and noble prize holders belongs to Germany. It is known as land of modern research and learning this language can expand your chances to get a better career in scientific field either in India or in Europe because this language is famous in many parts of Europe. many people choose a foreign language with an eye to their professional futures and the study of German can be a really intelligent choice.

  • CHINESE(MANDARIN)- Being the most widely spoken language in the world, this language can be the best for the purpose of business. Also, Mandarin might be helpful as China seems to be growing very quickly in scientific research.apart from this, over the last few years china has opened itself to the world.being on no.3 on world's largest global economy it encourages both foreign investment and economic cooperation.and of course, due to lack of people having knowledge of both English and Chinese, there is a huge demand for these skills and obviously that means high pay jobs.

  • JAPANESE- Japan is a leading nation in scientific research and is well known for its electronics industry throughout the world.Learning Japanese opens up a unique window into one of the world’s ancient civilizations.Japan and the United States are the two largest economic powers. Together they account for over 30% of world domestic product, for a significant portion of international trade in goods and services.Being one of the powerful country of the world, having knowledge of Japanese opens many doors for individuals.

  • LATIN- Being a dead language, many people can question how can this language be of any use well, it is. Latin provides the root words for all of the modern sciences.many words of science originally come from Latin or Greek.learning this language can help you better understand the origin and memorize many terms of science.

  • FRENCH- French is an analytical language that structures thought and develops critical thinking, which is a valuable skill for discussions and negotiations.being a science lover, learning french is fun task to do.also, knowledge of French opens the doors of many French companies in France and other French-speaking parts of the world.Speaking French opens up study opportunities at renowned French universities and business schools, ranked among the top higher education institutions in Europe and the world.(this point is valid for German too ;)...)

That's all with my list. I hope this will help you with some basic idea also there are other languages which i didn't mention but can be important like Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Sanskrit etc.at the end.
I will just say whichever language you learn, the important thing is that you 'LEARN' because Knowledge always bears fruit.
